The Role of the Sea of Galilee in the Holy Scripture
  1. But there will be no gloom for her that was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he will make glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond Jordan, Galilee of the nations (Is 9:1).
  2. St. Matthew the evangelist quoted this prophecy after seven hundred years when he says: Now when he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee; and leaving Nazareth he went and dwelt in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, toward the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles, the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned (Mt 4:12-16).
  3. Seven hundred years after the prophecy of prophet Isaiah, Jesus began to preach in the Sea of Galilee. The Sea of Galilee is a source of drinking water for Jews and an important place where people go for tourism and relaxation. Also, the Angel Gabriel was sent by God to the city of Galilee to a virgin betrothed to Joseph and the virgin’s name was Maria.
  4. After the resurrection, Jesus met his disciples in Galilee as we read in the gospel of Mathew, on Monday, the Octave of Easter: So they left the tomb in a hurry, afraid and yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them and said, Peace be with you. They came up to him, took hold of his feet and worshipped him. Do not be afraid, Jesus said to them. God and tell my brothers to go to Galilee and there they will see me (Mt 28:8 -10).
